2018 Capiaux Wilson Pinot Noir
Sonoma Coast
Wilson Vineyard is located on the Northern most part of the very large Sonoma Coast appellation just outside of the town of Annapolis. A few miles from the ocean and protected by a mountain ridge, this vineyard is protected from harsh ocean winds but benefits by its proximity to the ocean and forest that surrounds it. I have been jointly farming this 2.23 acres with the Wilson family for years. The elevation is 778 feet above sea level with a 13% slope.
Deep dark black cherry gorgeous color in the glass. Terroir-driven aromas of wood and forest floor give way to tart, dried cherry, raspberry and classic cherry cola flavors. Medium body and tannins.
Review:
Vinous/Galloni 92pts
“…plush, deep and enveloping. It is also a bit darker and more resonant in feel than most of the other Pinots in the range. Dark red/purplish fruit, black cherry, spice, menthol and lavender are some of the many notes that meld together in a super-attractive, mid-weight yet juicy Pinot that will drink well with minimal cellaring. The Wilson is all 777 clone Pinot and really comes through in its exuberance. Floral and spice overtones add the closing shades of nuance.” Tasting Date: Sept 2019
