2017 Capiaux Starscape Pinot Noir
Starscape Vineyard, formerly Floodgate Vineyard, is located in the Northern part of Russian River Valley bordering Mark West Creek within the unofficial sub-region known as Middle Reach. Planted in 1971, these old Martini clone vines are among the oldest known Pinot Noir in Russian River. The effects of annual flooding mark these craggy, thick 48-year old vines yielding less than a ton an acre. I’m so pleased with the unique character and striking quality this old vineyard delivers.
Medium deep red in color, Starscape has a red fruit nose with hints of cinnamon and graham cracker. A big bodied wine with red cherries and strawberries on the palate, medium tannins and a long fruit driven finish.

The 2017 Pinot Noir Starscape (formerly Floodgate) is another gorgeous, deeply expressive Pinot from Sean Capiaux. Energetic and vibrant in the glass, the 2017 offers striking purity from start to finish. I especially admire the focus and delineation here.
