What started in 1982 as just two acres of vines planted at the edge of the family's horse ranch, Gary Pisoni has expanded to 45 acres. Grapevines contour on and around the rugged mountain range in what is now known as Santa Lucia Highlands. Capiaux Cellars Pisoni Vineyard Pinot Noir Bottle shotThe vineyard is primarily decomposed granite with large deposits of quartz. Gravelly soils stress the vines and lower yields. Fog blankets the vineyard maintaining cool temperatures that retain vibrant acidity and aromatics. Farming practices are rooted in Burgundian tradition and sustaining the land which his family has tilled for three generations.

Medium red color and a solid core, Pisoni classically delivers raspberry, cola and roasted coffee aromas that carry through on the palate with added vanilla. Well integrated tannins and a lingering finish.

Antonio Galloni 93pts
The 2017 Pinot Noir Pisoni is a pliant, succulent wine that shows the textural richness that is such a signature of this Santa Luca Highlands site. Mint, wildflowers and blood orange perk up the bright red berry fruit nicely. Pisoni Pinots can at times be a bit heavy, but Sean Capiaux deftly balances fruit intensity with vibrancy in this inviting, beautifully crafted Pinot.
