2017 Capiaux Garys’ Vineyard Pinot Noir
Santa Lucia Highlands
Garys' Vineyard is a highly acclaimed and storied site owned by two Garys: Pisoni and Francioni. It was planted in the mid '90's to Pisoni clones in Santa Lucia Highlands sandy loam soil. With my first vintage of Garys' in 1999, I could sense its old-world beginnings and knew this vineyard could rival some of the great Burgundy "grand cru" sites.
Visually, a medium dark color with a delicate purple hue set the stage for this years Garys’ Pinot Noir. Subtle earthy aromas of sandalwood and incense lead into cola, cherry, white pepper and orange rind flavors. Hint of warm Thanksgiving Day spices with a broad, long finish. Nuance is the name of the game with Garys’ Vineyard this year.
