Capiaux Cellars grape source Pisoni Vineyard in late summer

Spring 2020 Releases

“…compelling. Bright, sculpted and energetic, the 2018 is just singing today. Sweet red cherry, mint, blood orange, spice and rose petal all race out of the glass. The Russian River Pinot here has often been a bit juicier, but the 2018 is done in a style that emphasizes aromatic depth and focus. Of course, the wines were just bottled about six weeks ago, so there may be some bottle shock. In any event, the 2018 is superb."

"…emerges from a site in the Green Valley district of the Russian River Valley, where the cooler micro-climate yields Pinot of real energy. Sweet black cherry, plum, mint, graphite, spice and licorice imbue the 2018 with a distinctly brooding feel.  I would give the Widdoes a few years in the bottle to fully come together, as the Martini clone aromatics are not quite as expressive today as they typically are."

92pts - Purely Domestic Wine Report/Wilder

The nose is cola, tobacco and red cherry accented with graphite and herb. The palate is plentiful, ripe and textured plum and licorice-like spice with silky mouth-coating tart berries on the finish. Higher acidity suggests a good run for this. Drink 2021 - 2030

"….bright and focused, with terrific energy driving the sweet red berry and floral notes.  White pepper, mint, blood orange and a kiss of new French oak (40%) add layers of nuance and dimension. The 2018 finishes with a real sense of saline-infused briskness that is hugely appealing. This is another stellar wine in Sean Capiaux’s range."
